Representing the Members

The core pillar of our activities is to support and promote our members. We achieve this goal mainly through projects which we undertake (see projects). Members’ views are gathered through a series of ad-hoc working groups dedicated to important topics. We inform our members through a monthly report and a dedicated portal about important news and information, as announced bid opportunities – and dedicated e-mails for key items.

Promoting the industry

EARSC employs a range of sophisticated digital tools to promote the European EO sector. EARSC has three main digital tools which cover creating a shared vocabulary (EARSC TAXONOMY) , providing a common space to find EO companies, and a common space to discover ‘online’ EO services.

Showing the value of Earth Observation

The Earth observation sector delivers a wide range of social and environmental and economic benefits to citizens of Europe and the world. To properly and consistently value these impacts, EARSC leads the Sentinel Benefits Study (SeBS) project in which we measure the total societal impact of products and services coming from Sentinel satellite data.

Official kick-off of the Copernicus Relays and Academy

EARSC Published its Internationalisation Strategy

EARSC has recently developed its Internationalisation Strategy and one of its objectives is to support our members by opening up new market opportunities. In other words, EARSC would like to help developing the market for the commercial products and services. The European Commission (EC) has launched an initiative to develop Copernicus Data and Information Access Services (DIAS) that facilitate access to Copernicus data and information from the Copernicus services. By providing data and information access alongside processing resources, tools and other relevant data, this initiative is expected to boost user uptake, stimulate innovation and the creation of new business models based on Earth Observation data and information.

The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) will hold an information day for European industry on the procurement process for a key data access element of the EU’s Copernicus environment monitoring programme, at its Darmstadt headquarters on 1 June.

A New Phase for the Copernicus Global Land Service: more variables, more products, and finer resolution

The South African National Space Agency has developed a system to monitor crops

The Earth Observation (EO) Directorate of the South African National Space Agency (Sansa) has developed an advanced crop-monitoring system for South Africa that will also be made available to other African countries, in due course. “We are able to monitor their [the crops’] condition through time,” Sansa EO acting MD Dr Paida Mangara told the thirty-seventh International Symposium on Remote Sensing of the Environment (ISRSE) in Pretoria.
