ABOUT EARSC


EARSC – the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies – is a non-profit trade association working on behalf of the geospatial information services industry in Europe representing 130+ companies. Composed of 9 people, the EARSC Secretariat is based in Brussels. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

EARSC is looking for a Market Development Officer to support the work of the Association. The person will assist EARSC in its mission to promote the European EO Services Industry in different market sectors. Based in Brussels, the person will work under the direct supervision of the Secretary-General and in close cooperation with others working for EARSC.

The person will interact with the Earth Observation (EO) services industry as well as numerous stakeholders throughout Europe and worldwide and will work on EARSC Secretariat activities and ESA/EC-funded projects. The position requires flexibility and involves working in a small team.

There are significant possibilities to shape the job to suit the skills of the person recruited.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Market Development activities of EARSC by developing links with other organisations representing market sectors for EARSC members. This will include commercial trade associations, representative bodies, key institutional agencies (for example EEE’s delivering Copernicus Services), and non-European representative bodies that can facilitate export activities for the sector.
  • Contribute to project work as required, establishing connections with users’ communities
  • Manage the organisation of all EARSC events including EXPANDEO (EARSC’s annual conference) and EOcafe (biweekly online meeting). 
  • Support EARSC communications in close cooperation with the communications officer.
  • Contribute to the knowledge capitalization of the Secretariat.
  • Represent EARSC in fora, development of links with policy decision makers and influencers in Brussels.

PROFILE

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of at least one of the user’s communities (e.g. agriculture, environmental monitoring, security, etc.) and the benefits of using EO solutions
  • At least 5 years of working experience 
  • Have experience in organizing high-level conferences and seminars (hybrid)
  • Strong skills in planning and organization
  • Excellent written and spoken English (C2 level)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well both independently and within large international teams
  • Proactive approach

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Knowledge of the European and international space-related stakeholders
  • Knowledge of projects with EU institutions (e.g. Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe)
  • Experience in proposal writing 
  • Evidence of creative thinking
  • Other languages

The person will be employed through a consultancy contract or a 12-month employee contract under Belgian law. Based on the profile, the contract could be extended at the end of the initial contract. The terms and conditions of the contract are negotiable.
