EOcafe: Funding Opportunities & Offered Services in AI & EO, AI4Copernicus, a Year on!

Thursday 7th of April 2022

16:00-17:00 CEST

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an indispensable and ubiquitous tool for growth and innovation for all sectors of the economy. For the world of Earth Observation (EO), the exponential advances in digital technologies and AI have and will continue to have a significant impact. At the same time, EO is vital for improving the innovation potential and advancing of several industries. So how can we bridge the gap between AI and EO to jointly realise their full potential?

Last year, two times we dedicated an EOcafe on this topic. First time we heard about the AI4EO initiative and exactly a year ago about the  AI4Copernicus

AI4EO is an initiative by the European Space Agency’s Φ -lab, to better connect the artificial intelligence (AI) and Earth observation (EO) domains.

AI4Copernicus is a project under Horizon 2020 involving partners from research and industry with the objective to deliver research and innovation in AI. One key deliverable of the project is the provision of a catalogue of AI resources and tools, an experimentation platform, a content manager system for AI events and open calls. AI4Copernicus partners include companies involved in three of the DIAS platforms, public institutions and research institutions to enable AI and EO innovation.

As AI has brought a lot of interest among our community, EARSC received a lot of requests to learn more about how the AI4 projects are progressing.

Towards this demand, in this EOcafe we will provide highlights and milestones reached during the first year of AI4Copernicus. Then, we will look into how it aims to harness the full power of new technologies relevant to AI and EO and facilitate the co-creation of value with the European industrial ecosystem (such as ICT companies, startups, etc.). This EOcafe will elaborate on the AI4Copernicus services and project incubation process, as well as upcoming funding opportunities.

Come and join us as our guest Mr Iraklis Klampanos (Research Associate at National Centre for Scientific Research “DEMOKRITOS”) and Mr Michele Lazzarini (Research, Technology Development and Innovation Project Manager at SatCen) will discuss with our host Geoff Sawyer (EARSC Strategic Advisor and former Secretary General) the evolution of the AI4 projects!

Questions which could be addressed during this EOcafe include the following:

  • Which milestones have been reached during the first year of AI4Copernicus?
  • Which are the AI4Copernicus services?
  • What are the new funding opportunities offered by this project?
  • Which new AI technologies can bring added value to EO services?
  • How are we going to solve the challenge of bridging the gap between the AI and the Earth Observation communities?

Registration: The webinar is open to ALL but priority will be given to EARSC members. Registration is free but compulsory. Please click on the following link to register.

Please note this is a virtual event!

EOcafe is part of a series of EARSC meetings that offer timely, relevant, and practical information on a broad variety of topics related to the EO sector. Join us every two weeks to discuss and network while enjoying a cup of coffee with friends.

IMPORTANT NOTES!!!

  • The use of a video camera is not mandatory but encouraged to facilitate better interaction among the attendees and the guest speaker(s).
  • The EOcafe will stay open after 17:00 in case our guests want to continue the discussion.
