Windstorm Products for Europe Launched by Intermap Technologies and iXmap

Denver & Munich – Intermap Technologies announced today the launch of two new windstorm applications – daily maximum wind speed maps and long-term maximum wind speed maps. Intermap’s wind-monitoring products provide critical data about wind velocity and direction to insurers and reinsurers throughout Europe. The products were developed in cooperation with iXmap GmbH, a Germany-based company specializing in the development and automation of environmental simulation models.

The daily maximum wind speed map product monitors the maximum speed of wind gusts occurring during any previous 24-hour period; thereby, allowing for the timely estimation of possible losses and the efficient assessment of claims immediately after an event. Long-term maximum wind speed maps, on the other hand, provide information about the number of days with wind gusts exceeding 17.22 m/second (38 mph) during the last 30 years. The long-term product supports the insurance underwriting process with accurate risk assessment and tariff zone definition, as well as enabling reliable future loss prognosis and exposure risk modeling. Both products can be used for either single-location wind risk evaluation or large-scale territory analyses, and are available in file formats suitable for all standard GIS tools.

“Devastating windstorms have plagued Europe throughout recorded history. Intermap is pleased to offer sophisticated wind-monitoring products that will help analyze future loss potentials, as well as assess fair and equitable adjustments for individuals suffering extensive property damage,” said Dr. Manfred Krischke, vice president, risk management applications for Intermap Technologies. “Our daily maximum wind speed product, in particular, is ideally suited to assist the insurance industry with post-event evaluation by helping risk managers quickly and accurately estimate property losses immediately following a catastrophic wind event.”

Intermap’s risk management division enables insurance companies to better define possible risks – resulting in more effective portfolio management and a net reduction of costs. Companies around the world are turning directly to Intermap to leverage the Company’s NEXTMap(R: 23.13, 0, 0%) geospatial dataset and applications to better manage their business.
