Digitalglobe And Decarta Team To Deliver World Imagery To The LBS Marketplace

(6 November 2008) DigitalGlobe, a leading global content provider of high-resolution world imagery solutions, today announced that it has signed an agreement with deCarta, the leading supplier of software and services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry under which DigitalGlobe will provide deCarta’s geospatial platform customers access to its premium, high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery.

Under the terms of the agreement, deCarta and its customers will have access to DigitalGlobe’s ImageBuilder imagery service which provides developer access to the most current, online library of high-resolution imagery, with new images being collected and uploaded to the service each and every day. Access to DigitalGlobe’s online image library enhances next-generation LBS applications where imagery provides higher levels of location relevance, utility and efficiency for social networking, fleet tracking, mobile resource management, Internet, government and business intelligence.

“As location-aware applications become more sophisticated, users of these services have come to expect imagery that allows them to better understand the context of an area,” said J. Kim Fennell, president and CEO of deCarta. “This service agreement gives deCarta’s LBS application developers to a new set of resources from which to create superior applications for government, consumer and commercial markets.”

DigitalGlobe has been the pioneer in making earth imagery available world-wide for web portals and mobile mapping applications. Its high-resolution satellite constellation (QuickBird, WorldView-1 and WorldView-2 launching in Q3/2009) and aerial program collect nearly 1 million square kilometres of earth imagery each day, with much of this imagery available via its online ImageBuilder service.

“We are proud to partner with deCarta, one of the leading geospatial platform companies in the location-based services marketplace” said Marc Tremblay, senior vice president and general manager of DigitalGlobe’s Commercial Business Unit. “deCarta’s leadership in the wireless LBS segment will allow both parties to accelerate imagery content into a wide array of applications including navigation, mobile resource management, and social networking.”
