The MarCoast Oil Service for Baltic was kicked off the 10 October 2006. MarCoast is a project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) under the GMES GSE program where the aim is to establish sustainable marine and coastal information services.
Oil spill is one of the six MarCoast services and has in the first project year been provided in the North Sea, Aegean Sea and part of the Mediterranean. The Baltic expansion service will start in November and will focus on introducing the service to new users and establish sub-regional co-operation according to HELCOM guidelines.
