Dublin Fire Brigade has launched a new data strategy that employs state-of-the-art space technology pioneered by Irish company Skytek for Nasa and the European Space Agency (ESA).
Best practice in the response of the fire brigade to accidents, fires and other emergency situations will be greatly improved with the use of technology, reports siliconrepublic.com.
Information such as the potential hazard associated with certain vehicles will be made available to emergency crews as a result of the application of earth observation data
Richard Hedderman, of Dublin Fire Brigade, told the news provider: “By electronically capturing the details of each accident site, we will also have access to real-time updated data to help build a complete picture of emergencies as they happen.”
Dr David Raitt of the ESA added that the data strategy illustrates the way in which space technology can be harnessed to improve best practice in other industries to the advantage of the single citizen view.
Dublin Fire Brigade was founded in 1862 and now encompasses 14 stations employing 900 staff.
