This survey contains not only all European countries with an
existing NGIA, but also those which are still trying to establish one.
existing NGIA, but also those which are still trying to establish one.
A
large number of European countries have a national geographic
information association (NGIA), which represents the interests of their
GI community in general.
EUROGI first commissioned a study in January 2001 to help provide
information to all who wish to set up or develop a NGIA – or a similar
mechanism in order to collaborate on ideas for bringing the many GI
players and sectors together. It was an in-depth analysis of typical
examples of National GI Associations. This offered guidelines and
recommendations and learn lessons towards setting up an NGIA.
Building on this first study, EUROGI – in February 2003 – expanded it
to include more countries (within the GINIE project).
Now we have updated it again to include a total of 32 countries.
