‘Seize the beauty of our Planet’ contest for the best satellite image of the Earth

CloudFerro, a member of EARSC, is inviting Earth observation specialists to take part in the 6th edition of ‘Seize the beauty of our Planet’ contest for the best satellite image of the Earth.

This year the theme of the competition is CITIES AND NATURE.

We are looking for satellite imagery of cities that reveal how cities and nature can thrive together, or images that can spotlight today’s urban challenges. The goal: help raise awareness about today’s cities challenges and motivate leaders to act for greener, safer, and resilient urban futures.

As a Copernicus Ambassador, CloudFerro also aims at promoting the use of Copernicus data. Remote sensing technologies and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide valuable data that can inform sustainable urban planning by enabling assessments of land use, air quality, and the impacts of development on local ecosystems.

Join the contest and take the opportunity to turn rigorous Earth Observation work into a captivating public message: how urban areas evolve, where green infrastructure is thriving (or missing), and why city design matters for climate resilience.

How to participate?

  • Generate a satellite image depicting a city of your choice using tools on one of the Copernicus data platforms (e.g. CREODIAS, CDSE, WEkEO, CODE-DE, EO-Lab) and process it in a dedicated software, like QGIS or similar.
  • Specs: ≥ 250 dpi, min. 6500×5000px. Include place, satellite, acquisition date, and a description.
  • Submit the image on the contest page.

 Deadline:

Please submit your image by October 26, 2025.

Awards & recognition:

  • 1st place: Apple iPad
  • 2nd place: Apple Watch SE
  • 3rd place: Apple AirPods 4 ANC
  • A unique wall calendar with the winning images for all finalists, and a desk-version of the calendar for all entries accepted to the voting phase.
