The SCIDIP-ES project – funded by the EU 7th framework program – has worked towards two main objectives: (1) Developing generic data preservation services for validation within the operational Earth Science context (2) Proposing recommendations for the harmonisation of data preservation policies and technologies within a European earth science data preservation infrastructure and governance model. Further information about the project can be found at www.scidip-es.eu
An extensive user survey was carried out by the project in 2012 in order to assess the technologies, policies and best practice available for earth science data preservation, and obtain an understanding of key future user requirements . After almost three years of work the SCIDIP-ES consortium is publishing this follow-up survey to obtain feed-back on the project results and key recommendations from the Earth Science – and data preservation – communities. The survey is aimed at data managers, data producers and data users across a diverse range of Earth Science domains and organisations.
The survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M6DQYSH and will remain open until 14th November 2014.
The results of this survey will be analysed by SCIDIP-ES and communicated back to the European Commission to inform the on-going development of an e-infrastructure for digital preservation of earth science data within Europe and beyond.
Your participation in this survey as a recognised Earth Science data professional or data user would be much appreciated to ensure that our results are representative of the earth science community as a whole (apologies for any cross-posting).
