Join Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial conference 2016 in Bonn!

The Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial conference (FOSS4G) is the annual global event of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo.org). Although widely recognized as the largest Geospatial Open Source conference, the organizers also call FOSS4G an “event”, because it is far more than “just” a conference. A FOSS4G includes talks, code sprints, bird-of-a-feather sessions, workshops, social events and lots of other attractive smaller and larger happenings within a 8 day lasting week.

Estimated Article Reading Time: 1 min.

For FOSS4G, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is expecting up to 1000 delegates from all over the world, but of course with a traditional focal point on people from Europe and also North-America. In order to give the conference a worthy setting, Bonn’s LOC has chosen the former plenary chamber and building of the German government, now known as the World Conference Center Bonn as conference and exhibition venue.

Although the FOSS4G core-conference focuses traditionally on Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial, we additionally want to build bridges to neighboured communities and with that connect people and communities. For this, we identified four key domain topics. These key topics are:

  • Remote Sensing
  • Open Data
  • Land information
  • Disaster Management

Regarding that, on FOSS4G 2016 european earth observation programs fit very well into at least two of these topics and a representation on the conference will encourage people from the Open Source Geospatial community to focus more on Remote Sensing and it’s data, problems, questions and needs.

We invite all people from the Remote Sensing Community to join us in Bonn, to build bridges and to come in contact with us. Call for submissions is now open! For companies and organisations there is of course also the opportunity to become a sponsor and exhibitor.
