Irish Crop Forcast

Estimated Article Reading Time: 0 min.

Irish crop production is monitored and yields predicted using satellite data. The MARS, Monitoring Agriculture through Remote Sensing, Programme run by the JRC use satellite data, met observations abd crop growth models to predict yields of different cops in the EU. The latest bulletin suggests that overall yields in europe will be up, inspite of the relatively poor summer. In fact Ireland has fared quite well:

In Ireland, definitively better agrometeorological conditions occurred with more seasonal amounts of rain and cumulated active temperatures. Also the simulated soil water content appeared quite close to the normal values and a higher level of solar radiation leads to forecast yields higher than the last 5 years. Conditions were also quite favourable for permanent pastures.
