Illegal dirt mining at the national park "Land of the Leopard" is investigated

NUUS: An administrative offense case was opened against CJSC “Pacific Bridge Construction Company” on illegal dirt mining at the national park “Land of the Leopard”. This was announced by the Senior Prosecutor’s Executive Officer of the Primorie Territory Elena Telegina. Illegal pit was detected in February when interpreting SPOT 5 images, submitted by ScanEx company for analysis by NGO Transparent World specialists.

The proceedings started as per Article 8.39 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Russian Federation (“Violations of rules of natural resources use and protection at protected natural areas). In addition, the company general director was obligated to liquidate the 4 ha dug-out pit. More files were also submitted with respect to the national park directorate, which, according to the prosecutor’s office, did not take proper measures to protect the territory.

Damage as a result of dirt extraction carried out from February to March 2013 is estimated at 248 000 rubles. Please be reminded that the illegal open pit was detected when studying satellite images, whereas the damage to the national park was then estimated at 50 million rubles.
