Chilean Minister Stresses Relevance of Earth Observation Summits

Mexico, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The presence of the Chilean delegation at the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Ministerial Summit stresses the relevance of the spreading and exchange of data, information and knowledge, said Chileâ�Ös Minister of National Assets during his address at the summit in Mexico.

Osorio also extended “fraternal regards on behalf of Chileâ�Ös President Michelle Bachelet”.

In statements to Prensa Latina, he said “we believe it is important the effort made by the GEO in terms of multilateral and international cooperation, which significantly contributes to humanityâ�Ös development and the defense of the Earth”.

This is a challenge not only for experts or technicians, but also for States and society in general, since space research and Earth observation allows a diversity of uses, he said.

It helps us build a sustainable development and face natural disasters and phenomena like climate change, which is having a global impact on the planet, he pointed out.

We can also take a look at our territory and make plans regarding the capacity to build sustainable cities and solve housing problems, being more aware of social equity and equality, he added.

In addition, it is a moment to promote investments in renewable energy, with a comprehensive approach.

The GEO Ministerial Summit gathered a diversity of countries, represented by ambassadors, authorities and ministers from almost a hundred nations from Africa, Europa, Asia and Latin America.
