A major step forward for the AMESD programme

Estimated Article Reading Time: 0 min.

Under the African Monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable Development (AMESD) programme, three grants were recently signed between the African Union Commission and the three Regional Implementation Centres (RICs) to implement services in support of the management of water, agricultural and environmental resources as well as land degradation and desertification mitigation, and natural habitat conservation.

These three grants complement the two previous grants signed at the end of 2009 for implementing services in support of water resources management for crop and rangeland management along with marine and coastal management.

The signing of these five grants, funded by the European Union under the 9th European Development Fund programme, has launched the 3-year active implementation phase of the all five AMESD THEMA (thematic actions).
EUMETSAT is contributing actively to the implementation of these five grants by, among others, giving access to the EUMETCast system for providing third party Earth Observation data needed from various data providers, including data issued by the GMES Core Services and their partners.
